HATS BY DEE

I made these hats myself trying to keep the materials and design as true to the era as possible.  All hats are hand sewn using very little, if any, glue.

If you are interested in seeing any of them in person, check out our schedule, call to let me know which hat you want me to bring, and I will show it to you there.

Civil War Bonnet

This lovely little bonnet is made on an original brown antique fur felt hat (closeup of original label can be seen on the enlargements). The roll around the face is slashed felt which can be better seen in the enlargement.  The slashed felt is what makes this hat stand out from all other bonnets.

The front edge and the back are trimmed with cream colored cotton crocheted lace trim.

Very soft antique lace covers the wearer's neck.  Delicate cream colored striped satin ribbon ties under the chin.

Embellishments consist of a variety of colored silk flowers, cranberries, and green ribbons.

Gray Felt Bonnet

This bonnet is built on an actual antique gray felt base.  Around the face are multiple layers of trim beginning with a blue braid under the front edge.  A blue twist adorns the edge of the front.

Layers of white and blue lace frame and draw immediate attention to the face. Blue scalloped trim anchors the lace to the hat and continues across the bottom back.

Both sides sport bold silk sunflowers highlighted with tiny white silk flowers.

White ostrich feathers adorn the right side of the hat.  Wide blue grosgrain ribbon anchors this unique bonnet to the head.

Blue appliqués adorn the top of the bonnet.  Original to this antique hat are the gray felt wing like layers located on the sides.
